Department of History
The Department of History was started in 1957 with UG course to facilitate the rural students of Nilgiri District, Tamil Nadu,India. In 2005 PG course was started in our Department to enhance the level of higher Education a step ahead. M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes were started in 2013 to cater the needs of candidates who are really interested in the field of Historical Research. All History majors shall produce a substantial research programmes that demonstrates competency in historical research and written expression.
The mission of the Department of History is based on the fact and belief that an understanding of history is essential not only to a complete education but also to a life of wider awareness, fulfillment and responsible citizenship. We seek to instill in students a passion for learning about the past to enable them gain a better understanding of the contemporary world and make connections to the future. The Department aims to be an open and welcoming site for an exchange of ideas and the encouragement of scholarly excellence. We are committed to developing in students vital skills such as critical thinking, analysis, verbal expression, and effective writing.
