The Department of Geology was started in 2020 in Govt Arts College, ooty. It is an Earth science / Geology Focuses on the Field oriented study. The main branches of study is physical Geology, Geomorphic process, Structural Geology . Fossil study on palaeontology, Hydrogeology, Crystallography to study the Minerals, Crystal in earth surface. Mining Geology , Gemmology – Gemstone’s present in the of Earth surface, Engineering Geology Environmental Geology, Remote sensing & GIS, Gps, surveying etc. The technological studies are relates with inter displinary and multi displinary Field such as Geostatistics, Geophysics, Geochemistry, with Computer Application, This Department very helpful to preliminary and Main Exam, UPSC-Indian Forest service (IFS), UPSC Geologist, Central polutions control board, Indian meterological Department, Atomic Mineral Division (AMD), NRSC-National Remote sensing Center, ISRO- Indian Space Research organisation NIOT – National Institute of Ocean Technology, IIM – Indian Institute of Mines, SAIL – Steel Authority of India limited ONGC – Oil & Natural Gas Commission.

The Professional thought Geology makes position in Civil engineering. Geologist can also Teaching oppertunity in B.E Civil engineering and B.E petroleum engineering. Other oppertunity of UGC-CSIR Junior Research Programs (JRF) & Assistant professor under this Earth & Atmospheric science.
